On Saturday, March 29 2014, millions of people around the world will participate in Earth Hour by turning off their lights for an hour at 8:30 pm.
You’re all probably familiar with Earth Hour, a global movement organized by WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) to raise awareness of environmental issues around the world. You may have even questioned what impact an hour of turning off your lights can possibly make.
This year’s Earth Hour campaign is a little different, starting with the fact that it has a super hero as its ambassador!
In a first of its kind partnership, Spider-Man will be the first Super Hero ambassador for Earth Hour, helping to spread a message to inspire individuals to use their power to become Super Heroes for the planet.
The hero of the highly anticipated motion picture The Amazing Spider-Man 2 – along with the film’s stars, Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx and director Marc Webb – are throwing their support behind Earth Hour Blue, which aims to harness the power of crowd funding to raise funds for on-the-ground environmental projects from across the world. Each star has chosen one project to support and will be attending a special event in Singapore in honour of Earth Hour 2014.
Will your family be doing anything special for Earth Hour 2014?
Do you think the involvement of Spider-Man and Hollywood actors will help spread more awareness of environmental issues or inspire people to participate in Earth Hour projects?
