Looking to brave the elements and ring in the new year outdoors with a few thousand of your closest friends? Preparations are underway across Canada to bring in 2014 with a bang. Here are some of those events, all family friendly of course.
Robson Square located in downtown Vancouver will have an all-ages celebration with live stage performers and an early countdown at 7:30 p.m. Free.
Celebrate with the family at Whistler’s New Year’s Celebrations. One price gets you access to various venues with activities such as ice skating, music, bouncy castles, crafts, dancing, circus performers and a kids’ countdown at 9 p.m. Pricing: $10-$20.
The Family First Night at Mount Seymour is an all-ages family celebration. Activities include tubing, tobogganing, music, sparklers, fire pits, s’mores, entertainment and a kids’ countdown at 9 p.m. Pricing: $10-$15.
Put on your dancing shoes and join the City of Calgary for a family friendly New Year’s Eve dance party at the Calgary Municipal Building from 7-10 p.m. Olympic Plaza will also be open for ice skating and a kids’ countdown at 9 p.m. Free.
The Calgary Zoo is hosting Zoo Year’s Eve from 6-9 p.m., a family friendly event with fire pits, hot chocolate and of course lots of animals. There’s even a low impact, low noise fireworks show planned so the animals don’t get spooked. Price: $11-15.
Ring in the new year with the animals at the Toronto Zoo’s 11th Annual NYE Family Countdown. Festivities take place from 5-8pm and features animal visitors, family entertainment and a kids’ countdown at 8pm. Pricing: $12-$20.
Toronto’s Nathan Phillips Square will be packed with revellers as City TV hosts the City New Year’s Eve Bash 2013. Performers include Jully Black, Kardinal Offishall, Shawn Desman and the cast of Disney On Ice. Free.
The spectacular Niagara Falls is the backdrop to ET Canada’s New Year’s Eve 2014 with special guests tween fav Demi Lovato, the Sam Roberts Band and Serena Ryder. Free.
Ottawa’s Sparks Street Promenade is a free all-ages New Year’s Eve event featuring Juno Award Winner k-os and other musical acts on stage. Stroll around the outdoor mall and take in the celebration and countdown with the Maple Leaf drop at midnight. Free.
Enjoy an alcohol-free family friendly celebration at Rick Chiarelli’s Annual New Year’s Eve Celebration at Ben Franklin Place in Nepean from 6-10 p.m. Free activities include ice skating, sleigh rides, talent show and the only fireworks in town. Free.
Enjoy an outdoor family adventure at the Emera Oval New Year’s Eve Celebration with live DJs, skating and fireworks at 7 p.m. and midnight. Free.
The region’s largest New Year’s Eve celebration Party on the Parade takes place in Halifax’s Grand Parade starting at 9:30 p.m. Join the hosts of CTV Morning Live as Canadian musical talent take the stage with fireworks at midnight. Free.
