It’s back, and bigger and better than ever! For the 3rd consecutive year, Star Wars fans can celebrate everything Star Wars and the love of reading during Star Wars Reads Day on October 11, 2014.
Star Wars Reads Day is a collaboration between book publishers, authors, bookstores, libraries and schools to celebrate reading and Star Wars with a variety of free events. Last year, over 2000 Star Wars authors and costumed volunteers participated in over 2,000 Star Wars Reads Day events across North America and, for the first time, around the world.
To find Star Wars Reads Day events taking place near you, visit the DK Canada Star Wars Reads Day events page, or check with your local library or bookstore to see if they will be participating.
Or, plan your own Star Wars Reads Day celebration! You can download a Star Wars Reads Day PDF Activity Kit with fun Star Wars themed activities for the kids, including trivia quizzes, mazes, puzzles and drawing challenges.
To help prepare for Star Wars Reads Day 2014, check out all of the Star Wars books available in the DK Canada Star Wars Boutique. From Star Wars Character Encyclopedia, Blueprints and Visual Guides to easy readers, novels, sticker books and instructions for drawing Star Wars characters, DK has books for Star Wars fans of any age – from kids to adults.
I had the chance to review the books shown above recently, and highly recommend them for any Star Wars fans on your list.
The Star Wars Ultimate Factivity Collection is an interactive book, with over 500 stickers that allow kids to create their own book about the Star Wars galaxy. Although it is essentially a “sticker book” it is not like any sticker book I have seen before. There’s a lot of reading in this book, and there’s so much more to do than just putting stickers on the pages. There’s also drawing challenges, fact challenges and quizzes, puzzles and mazes and other activities to keep kids busy for hours. Recommended for ages 7-9, it would be a perfect gift for younger tweens.
The Star Wars Character Encyclopedia contains photos, stats and biographical information on over 200 Star Wars heroes, villains and other characters from the Star Wars movies. An interesting read for any diehard Star Wars fan, this is also a great resource for new Star Wars movie watchers that may have trouble remembering who’s who – there are a lot of characters to keep track of! This book is recommended for ages 7-17. Other versions of the Character Encyclopedia are available, including Lego Star Wars characters and Star Wars Clone Wars.
Star Wars in 100 Scenes is one of the newest additions to the Star Wars books library at DK Canada, having been just released in August 2014. Recommended for ages 7-15, this book allows readers to relive their favourite movie moments from the 6 Star Wars movies, learn some interesting behind-the-scenes facts about the actors, locations and special effects used to create Episodes I to VI. With Episode VII scheduled to be released in 2015, this would be a great refresher for existing Star Wars fans, or an introduction to the series for younger kids.
