Shannon Mischuk is well known in social media circles for her role of leading Community Engagement for Blissdom Canada, an annual conference for bloggers, writers, PR and social media pros. Shannon and her business partner Jennifer Powell took over leading Blissdom Canada as co-principals in 2013, bringing a distinctly Canadian touch to the popular blogging / social media conference.
In addition to her involvement with Blissdom Canada, Shannon is also co-founder of Splash Media Engagement, an entrepreneur, freelance writer, public speaker, social media consultant, the sassy wife of a preacher and mom of four kids, including 11-year-old Liam and 13-year-old Emma. She’s been blogging about her family life at shasherslife.com since 2006 and together with her husband has led a church in Kitchener, Ontario for the past two decades.
How are you planning to spend Mother’s Day? Do you have any Mother’s Day traditions?
Shannon: Mother’s Day this year happens to fall on our 18th Wedding Anniversary, so it’s extra special! Usually we go out to a restaurant or my hubby BBQ’s at home.
The kids usually give me something they’ve made at school and make me breakfast in bed before we head off to church.
What are some of your favourite activities to do with your mom?
Liam: Shopping and cooking.
Emma: Shopping, decorating rooms, parties, etc.
Can you share with us what makes your mom so special?
Liam: She’s awesome because she hangs out with me.
Emma: She puts others first before herself.
What makes you proud to be their mom?
Shannon: They are kind kids; they consider others and look for opportunities to be a blessing to those around them. They are helpful around the house and love to cook. They fully participate in our household. They are great kids, all around awesome.
If you could give your tweens one piece of advice you wish you knew at their age, what would it be?
Shannon: Your mom is always right! Well… most of the time. 😉
