The tween years are a time of discovery and exploring new interests. Books can be a great way to learn about things that interest you, and National Geographic Kids has some fabulous books for kids that are both educational and fun to read.
National Geographic Kids recently sent me three of their books geared to tweens to review, and I think all three would make wonderful gift ideas. They are also providing a chance for one of our readers to win all three books, so be sure to enter our giveaway!
Guide to Photography – Tips & Tricks on How to Be a Great Photographer From the Pros & Your Pals at MYSHOT
The National Geographic Kids Guide to Photography covers a wide range of information about photography, from camera equipment (including smart phones) to the basics of photo composition and lighting to more advanced photography techniques and tricks. It’s all laid out in an easy to read, bright colourful format with gorgeous photos to illustrate the concepts being discussed. With tips and fun assignments from National Geographic photographer Annie Griffiths, kids have the opportunity to practice the different techniques and types of photography detailed throughout the book. I’m sure most adults would also learn a thing or two from this guide!
Cookbook – A Year-Round FUN Food Adventure
Has your son or daughter shown an interest in cooking? The National Geographic Kids Cookbook would be a great way to help them expand their cooking skills and try new recipes. Divided into sections based on the months of the year, you’ll find seasonal and holiday themed recipes from around the world, fun facts, food challenges and craft and activity ideas, all accompanied with beautiful photographs. The recipes are simple and easy for novice chefs to follow, but go beyond the usual kid fare to expand their palates a bit.

We could all use a little pick-me-up from time to time, and tweens are certainly no exception. The 100 Things to Make You Happy book covers a hundred different things to brighten your mood and put a smile on your face, from cute photos of animals, mood boosting songs and inspirational words to information on the benefits of meditation, self-talk, exercise and much more. It’s bright, cheerful and full of the amazing photographs you would expect from a National Geographic book. Definitely a mood-booster!
