Here we are in the final
days of 2016. December is always such a busy time of year with holiday parties, school concerts, shopping, family gatherings, wrapping, entertaining, etc. But what I love most about the holidays is the post holiday bliss. You see, after the gifts are unwrapped, holiday meals eaten, Boxing Day shopping come and gone, it’s my time. This is really the only part of the year that I feel I have a legitimate excuse to putt around in pajamas all day long and do whatever the heck I want. Our family is so busy all the other times of the year that the holidays is a wonderful time to hang together and just chill.
Now that binge-tv is actually a thing, the holidays are my excuse to catch up on some quality shows. Last year, I was glued to Making a Murderer. But what will be binge worthy this holiday season? If you’re looking for suggestions on what to watch, keep reading as I’ve got some fabulous ideas on what’s streaming on Netflix Canada.
Before we can go any further, don’t forget that you can now download your favourite Netflix shows and movies at no extra cost. Perfect for holiday travelling, download at home and watch anytime, anyplace with no connection required! Be sure you have the latest Netflix app downloaded and look for the “Available to Download” menu on your tablet or mobile device. This is such an awesome new feature!!
DreamWorks Trollhunters tells the story of an average teen who discovers a secret world of trolls living beneath his hometown. He and his best friends find themselves unlikely heroes in discovering they are the only ones who can save not one but two worlds in this animated fantasy series. Directed by Guillermo del Toro, Trollhunters voice talents include heavy hitters like Kelsey Grammer (The Simpson, Cheers), Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead) and the late Anton Yelchin (Star Trek).
The animation in Trollhunters looks spectacular as there’s something for all ages in this new action, adventure series starting December 23 on Netflix.
Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life
If you’re looking for more of a drama comedy, the new Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life is the perfect mother/daughter bonding show to watch together. The show picks up 9 years after the original series ended with all the characters we grew to love back in Stars Hollow. I love the mother/daughter relationships in the series. We can all see ourselves and our daughters to be like BFFs Rory and Lorelai Gilmore or polar opposites like Lane and Mrs. Kim or the complex relationship of Lorelai and Emily Gilmore.
If you’re still in need of more holiday inspired programming, Netflix is your one-stop shop. Check out the Netflix Holiday Calendar below and start planning your post-holiday viewing schedule!
My final suggestion is based on a huge big screen blockbuster currently playing in theatres. You may have heard of it — Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. If the kids can’t get enough of Jedis, lightsabers and The Force, be sure to tune in to Netflix’s Star Wars library of feature films and animated series.
Happy holidays and here’s to your post-holiday bliss binge🎄!

About Wendy Morelli
Wendy loves her 2 kids and her iPhone, not necessarily always in that order. She is an app obsessed mom who loves everything tech and is (unfortunately) old enough to remember the brick Motorola cell phone and the Commodore computer. Her love for technology stems back to the 10+ years of working for technology based companies. Wendy's alter ego, "AppHipMom" has been featured in Canadian Family, iVillage, Women in Biz, EverythingMom, BlogHer and Savvy Mom.
