We all know we should eat a nutritious breakfast every morning. But do we actually do it? Do our kids?
According to a recent study, the number of people who regularly skip breakfast has been declining in recent years. However, what people are eating for breakfast may not always be the healthiest choices. 80% of all breakfast meals are made in 5 minutes or less, and many people are searching for fast food, grab-and-go breakfast options, so convenience often trumps nutrition.
Breakfast wraps and burritos are a growing trend at restaurants and fast-food outlets, as people try to make healthy on-the-go breakfast choices. Now you can make one at home in less time than it takes to sit in the line at the drive thru.
The new Breakfast Wrap Maker from Hamilton Beach is designed to help make the most important meal of the day more fun and nutritious (and it’s certainly cheaper than a trip through the drive-thru!)
The beauty of the Breakfast Wrap Maker is it’s so that older kids will be able to use it to make themselves a quick and nutritious grab-it-and-go breakfast or snack any time of day.
Here’s how it works:
Plug in the wrap maker to preheat it.
While it’s heating up, get your breakfast wrap ingredients ready
Break an egg into a small bowl and whisk it with a fork.
When the green light comes on, put one tortilla into the bottom ring.
Close the middle ring and put your egg into the small ring.
Then add your chosen fillings.
Close the lid and set the timer for 4-5 minutes. (I prefer 5 minutes as it leaves the tortilla a bit toasty and the eggs well done.)
When the timer goes off, slide the lever all the way to the left to allow the egg to drop onto the tortilla.
Lift up all the rings at once. Voila…
Lift out the tortilla with a spatula and place on a plate. Fold into a portable breakfast wrap. Bon appétit!
One of the best things about this wrap maker is that everyone can personalize their breakfast wrap to suit their tastes. One kids loves red peppers and onions, another likes just mushrooms and the other one wants ham and cheese? No problem! Everyone can add just the ingredients they like to make their own customized breakfast wrap.
Helpful tip: If you really want to encourage your kids to use this device to make their own breakfasts or snacks, it’s a great idea to have grated cheese and some of their favourite toppings cut up and ready to go in the fridge.
When I first got the Breakfast Wrap Maker I figured it was going to be a pain to clean it after using. To my surprise, there was virtually no mess to clean up! As long as you remember to put some cooking spray or oil on it before using and don’t fill it too full, clean up is a breeze.
This nifty little device can be used for more than just to make breakfast burritos. The recipe book that comes with it shows you how to make quick and easy omelettes, stuffed pancakes and crepes and personal pizzas, all of which are completely customizable to suit your personal preferences. My daughter made a Banana Nutella Crepe that looked pretty tasty. Unfortunately it disappeared before I could get a pic (or a taste!)
