You know that the regular season of the NHL is just around the corner when the BioSteel Pro Hockey Camp comes to town. This is the 5th year of the camp, which has always attracted top NHL and junior players to 4 days of intense strength and conditioning. Being that my daughter plays competitive hockey, we were thrilled for the opportunity to attend the exclusive #mazdafan event at St. Mike’s arena in Toronto.
Led by trainer guru Matt Nichols, players rotate between on and off ice training, ending with a tournament on the final day to battle for the BioSteel Cup. Teams were selected prior to the start of camp with team captains Mike Cammalleri (New Jersey Devils), Wayne Simmonds (Philadelphia Flyers), Tyler Seguin (Dallas Stars) and Mike Del Zotto (Philadelphia Flyers) drafting what they hope will be the team to come out on top. Congrats to Team Seguin for winning the 2014 BioSteel Cup and to Malcolm Subban for taking the MVP!
Players in attendance included NHL’s brightest stars including Paul Bissonnette, Chris Stewart, Ray Emery, Malcom Subban, Jordan Subban, P.K. Subban and Josh Ho-Sang. It was surreal to sit right along the boards to watch the intensity of their practice. The kids and I had a chuckle to see Jari Byrski from Sk8ON lead the on ice sessions. We’ve had the pleasure of attending Jari’s classes, so it was amazing to see him on the ice with the pros! Wayne Gretzky and his son Ty were on the ice earlier in the week and Walter Gretzky took the bench on Thursday to coach #TeamDelZotto.
Often referred to as the “camp before the camp”, these guys mean business. They commit to the BioSteel hockey camp to get in peak physical shape prior to returning to their respective teams to train for the start of the upcoming season.
Big thanks to Mike Cammalleri and Raffi Torres for taking the time to stop to take photos with the kids. Here’s hoping Raffi has a speedy recovery and gets back on the ice soon!
Being that my daughter is older, I really hope she can take what she saw and continue to strive to always give her best, both on and off the ice. Her drink of choice for some time now has been BioSteel. She always #DrinkthePink during her workouts and looks forward to her post workout recovery drink. She tells me it tastes like a chocolate shake!
Thank you Mom Central, Mazda Canada and BioSteel for giving my kids and their friends a day they won’t soon forget and for showing these young amateur hockey players that even NHL pros go to “camp”.
Disclosure: I was invited by Mom Central Canada to attend as part of the BioSteel Hockey Camp blogger campaign. All opinions are my own.
