Boys can cook too
Someone I recently met told me that our jobs as parents is to get our kids prepared for the outside world. I never thought of it that way, but it is so true. Our kids won’t be living with us forever (let’s hope) and lifelong skills such as cooking is something everyone (boy or girl) should know how to do. So it’s not surprising to see that the tv networks have picked up on this with not one but two tween reality cooking shows premiering this month. And judging by the number of male contestants, boys can cook too!
Rachael vs Guy: Kids Cook-Off
This is a spinoff of Food Network’s Rachael vs Guy: Celebrity Cook-Off. Celebrity contestants are replaced with 8 extremely talented kids competing for a chance to have their very own web series in the new series Rachael vs Guy: Kids Cook-Off. The junior chefs are split into 2 teams of 4 each mentored by either Rachael Ray or Guy Fieri. Kids earn points based on a series of challenges such as a cook-off, pop quiz and classroom lessons. The junior chef with the highest score at the end of the 4 episodes takes the top prize. Celebrity guests include Jennie Garth, Marion Ross (Happy Days mom) and the First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama. The Toronto Star revealed that 11-year-old Daniel Hamilton is the sole Canadian competing in the series and we wish him the best of luck. Go Daniel Go!
Rachael vs Guy: Kids Cook-Off air Sunday nights at 8pm EST on Food Network Canada.
Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay is once again at the helm with the new Fox series MasterChef Junior but this time his contestants are between 8-13 years of age. 24 kids will be put into 3 teams of 8 each led by a famed mentor (including Ramsay) as they create their best pasta, seafood or dessert dish. The field will be cut down in half and we’ll see the top 12 junior chefs in challenges that include preparing Beef Wellington and preparing a three-course meal in a fine dining restaurant. We might just see a different side of Ramsay yet. Here’s a sneak peak of what’s ahead.
