With Halloween creeping up next week, the last minute rush to find a costume is underway. At this point, if you haven’t already purchased an off-the-shelf costume, you’re probably out of luck if you had something specific in mind. But fear not, you are a parent of a tween! Tweens love being crafty, so put them to work and enjoy the crafting time together. I’m a no sew type of gal and easy is the name of the game for me. If that sounds like you, check out these awesome easy DIY costume ideas. They work for all ages.
Homemade costumes roundup
Tweens currently have a love affair with all things social and they are notorious for hanging together in packs, so what could be a better costume than dressing as various social media platforms like the girls in this group photo from PopSugar.
Alternatively, if it’s a costume for 1, Life with 4 Boys shares a brilliant Facebook Page costume. Just as you should be careful with what your child puts on Facebook, be sure they’re not putting personal details on their Facebook Page costume.
Minions from the hit film Despicable Me will be a sure fire hit this Halloween and Makes and Takes walks us through how to make this super simple costume. Just throw on a yellow long sleeve shirt and blue overalls and you’re ready to go.
With the popularity of Minecraft, I sense there will be a few Steve’s out trick-or-treating. Kerry Ann Morgan shows us how to put together a Minecraft Steve cardboard head for under $10. Finish the costume off with a light blue shirt and dark blue pans (aka jeans) and Steve is ready to go.
Check out these 2 food related costumes. The first from Costume Works is a bag of jellybeans. Nothing more than balloons, a clear garbage bag, paper and markers required. One of my favourites!
The second from Studio DIY is a donut made with an inflatable water tube, spray paint, glue, foam rollers, ribbon and twine. Great effect!
This costume is so easy that Tip Junkie didn’t even write instructions. With essentially 3 items, white clothing, electrical tape and a paper plate, this is as simple as it gets.
