We are all so connected that we often multitask while watching tv. I know I do. Whether I’m checking emails or responding to texts or on social, my brain is working overtime. Case in point, while watching The Crown on Netflix, I found myself Googling things like was the future Queen really vacationing in Kenya when she learned of the King’s passing? And as I delved deeper into it all, my curiosity got the better of me, as I attempted to distinguish fact from fiction about the Royal Family.
Google has really changed the way we learn. Learning is as instant and gratifying as hitting the “return” key. Whether you’re 5 or 95 years of age, Netflix viewers are Googling their favourite shows more than ever. Our natural human curiosity leads us to asking many questions. I love watching historical dramas like The Crown, Narcos and Hidden Figures. If only my keyboard could talk, LOL. I Googled my way through these incredible shows like asking “did Al Harrison (Kevin Costner) really knock down the colored restroom sign”? This was one of the best scenes in Hidden Figures. Unfortunately, it never really happened.
We all know that kids say the darnest things and ask the toughest questions, whether it’s about why the moon changes shape or how do airplanes fly, but Google has come through every time (thank goodness!!). Thanks to children’s shows like Magic School Bus Rides Again, science takes a front seat in this classic reboot that will hopefully have young kids take an interest in science. After my family watched The Jungle Book, my kids and I were so curious in learning how they filmed the realistic looking scenes in the jungle, and when Mowgli was swimming with the bear singing “The Bare Necessities”. It was incredible to see behind the scenes footage – we were simply awestruck with what technology can do!
