Who doesn’t love birthdays?! Even the most mature tween loves a good birthday party (even though they may not necessarily admit it). But with everything else parents have on their plate, birthday party planning can take its toll. In fact, 44% of parents around the world feel the pressure to be “party perfect” for their child’s birthday and 62% of parents say kids’ birthday parties aren’t what they use to be.
One of my most vivid birthday party memories was from a party my parents had for me at our house when I was in grade 3 or 4. I honestly don’t know why but I still remember popping balloons and playing pin the tail on the donkey. Having 2 teenagers now, I can attest that today’s “standards” are over the top as parties get more lavish and expensive. Trust me, I would know. We’ve done it all; class parties, joint parties at various venues – escape room, laser tag, sewing party, beach volleyball, indoor playgrounds, mad science, Cineplex movie party, bowling, trampoline, and ice hockey are just the ones I can recall, lol.
We all want our child’s birthdays to be memorable. 82% of global parents wish there was an easier way to make the day extra special for their child. Well, Netflix has granted that wish with the launch of 14 Birthdays On-Demand featurettes from popular shows! Imagine the look on their faces when they see their favourite characters from shows like Project MC2, Barbie, Trollhunters and Pokemon wishing them a happy birthday.
Netflix’s newly launched Birthdays On-Demand is just one of the many family friendly initiatives that the streaming provider launched in the last year. Other family friendly initiatives include:
Downloadable content. Watch without a wifi or internet connection. Perfect for those long car rides, travelling or at the cottage where internet can be spotty at best.
Interactive adventures. Young viewers have the power to decide where to take the storyline next.
Cottage country download zones. Hotspots around cottage country during the summer long weekends where subscribers can download content to their devices.
Family New Year’s Eve countdowns. Have an early countdown before bedtime with the kids featuring their favourite characters.
I love that Netflix is constantly upping their game and providing subscribers with additional initiatives that go a long way in helping busy moms and dads. Remember, Netflix Canada has something for every member of the family, tweens and teens included!

About Wendy Morelli
Wendy loves her 2 kids and her iPhone, not necessarily always in that order. She is an app obsessed mom who loves everything tech and is (unfortunately) old enough to remember the brick Motorola cell phone and the Commodore computer. Her love for technology stems back to the 10+ years of working for technology based companies. Wendy's alter ego, "AppHipMom" has been featured in Canadian Family, iVillage, Women in Biz, EverythingMom, BlogHer and Savvy Mom.
