The cold winter weather has definitely arrived, but that doesn’t mean you and your kids have to spend the next few months in hibernation! If you’re looking for a way to keep your family active this winter but don’t enjoy cold winter activities, then North Beach Volleyball is just what you’re looking for.
We recently invited our blogger friends Deborah Coombs, Deb Lowther and Eric Novak and their tweens to join us for some active family fun at North Beach Volleyball‘s indoor facility in Toronto. The kids ranged in age from 8 to 14, and despite some initial resistance (mostly due to having to get out of bed early in the morning during the Christmas holidays!), a fun time was had by all, including parents.
North Beach is located on Railside Rd in Toronto, near Lawrence and the DVP. It’s home to 8 indoor beach volleyball courts and 2 outdoor courts, and offers a range of options including beach volleyball court rentals, drop-in play, leagues and tournaments, birthday parties and camps. On any given day, you’ll find a wide range of ages on the courts, from young kids digging in the sand to adults like Canadian beach volleyball Olympic medalists training on the courts.
It’s a fun place to bring a group of tweens or teens on a cold winter day, and parents can join in the fun too. The huge beach-inspired colourful murals may even help you forget all the snow that’s on the other side of those walls for a few minutes.
North Beach Volleyball provided us with an Activities Director while we were on the sandy courts, who helped teach the kids some volleyball skills like proper techniques for spiking, volleying and serving. He also cheered us on from the sidelines when we were able to get a rally going during our games. Activities Directors are also available to referee games if your group is a bit more competitive.
North Beach also has a 24 foot rock climbing wall, jumping castle and a fun inflatable obstacle course that kids of all ages will enjoy. In fact, the obstacle course seemed to bring out everyone’s competitive side as siblings and parents challenged each other to head-to-head races after we were finished playing volleyball. In case you’re wondering – the course is not only fun but quite the workout as well!
Here are some upcoming events and programs at North Beach Volleyball:
