Getting your period for the first time is a huge milestone for girls (and parents too). Just talking to mom or a trusted older female friend can be embarrassing, to which girls would rather do anything else but. This is why I absolutely loved the way Hello Flo decided to tackle this sensitive topic. The ad is no doubt completely over-the-top, but these are the types of ads people will remember. Thanks to @EcoOutfittersOL for bringing this to my attention.
Hello Flo sells feminine product care kits and monthly packages for women and girls. Their product line includes a Period Starter Kit, PostPartum Kit and Camp Kits. Although Hello Flo currently does not ship to Canada, you can still enjoy the hilarious video which has had over 24 million hits on YouTube since June.
The story is about a tween girl who is anguished over the fact that she’s the last of her friends to get her period. She decides to fake getting her period with some help from red nail polish and a pad. I won’t ruin the rest but let’s just say mom calls her bluff and proceeds to play along by throwing her a First Moon party, complete with theme party games and all. Lesson learned – don’t fake out mom, she’ll always be one step ahead of you. Kudos to the actors who portrayed mom and daughter, they did a fantastic job with their outrageous performances.
